This is where life cover and health protection comes into play, as it provides a guaranteed lump sum or income in the event of an accepted claim during the period of insurance.
Life assurance can be set up for a specified period of time (term assurance) or for the whole of the insured person's life (whole of life cover).
There are many other protection policies designed to protect an individual and his or her family against other events such as critical illness, permanent disability, personal accident, and loss of income through illness, or due to being unable to do your own specific job through disability.
Life Cover

Reasons to take out life insurance could include:

- Replacing the primary earner’s salary – ensuring the family does not fall on hard times after your death
- Replacing childcare – the death of the primary childcare provider could lead to the need for childcare expenses]
- Education expenses – cover for school/university fees after the death of the primary earner
- Business or Keyman Cover – ensuring the business can finance a replacement, or buy back company shares inherited by spouse
Whether it’s about leaving your debts behind or ensuring your family can maintain the standard of living to which they were accustomed, it’s clear there are plenty of reasons to look for the best life insurance policy for your personal circumstances. Selecting the most appropriate product and getting the best quote is an important part of finding the right policy.
Critical Illness Cover
Lump sum protection to repay your mortgage, or to provide for you and your family on diagnosis of a stated Critical Illness or Disability.
Like Life Cover, the key reasons to protect your family using Critical Illness Cover are to repay your mortgage and any other debt, and to provide financial cover for any lost salary in the event of a qualifying illness or disability.
Income Protection
Financial packages to protect your income against illness or disability, so that in the event you are unable to work, you can still meet your mortgage and other financial commitments.
This type of policy is commonly known as a Permanent Health Insurance (PHI) plan, and pays an insured amount of income (usually maximum 75%) in the event that you are unable to work through accident or illness, and will continue to pay that income to your selected retirement age, or until you are well enough to return to work if sooner.
Private Medical Cover
Private medical insurance is designed to cover the costs of private medical treatment for curable short-term illness or injury. It is designed to provide private treatment to acute conditions that are likely to respond quickly to treatment, which aims to return you to the state of health you were in immediately before suffering the disease, illness or injury, or which leads to your full recovery. We can provide this type of insurance to give you the reassurance of knowing that treatment is available promptly, if you become ill or are injured.
As a private patient you can often choose when treatment will take place, the specialist who treats you and the hospital. You will usually have the privacy of an en-suite room complete with home comforts such as TV.
Some illnesses and treatments will not be covered by a private medical insurance policy and it is also important to remember that this insurance is not designed to replace all the services offered by the NHS.
